Virgil E. Bacon, Jr. - EULONIA - Virgil "Pee Wee" Bacon, 92, died September 27, 2013 at home surrounded by loved ones. He was born September 12, 1921, is a native of Savannah, GA and a graduate of Commercial High School in Savannah. In WWII he served his country as a US Navy Aviation Gunner. He was employed by the US Postal Service for 40 years, was a member of Knights of Columbus and served on the St Patrick Day Committee.
Virgil retired to a small waterfront community in McIntosh County, GA in 1985 where he enjoyed fishing, crabbing and vegetable gardening. He will be remembered for his wonderful story telling skills and love of the Georgia Bull Dogs!
Virgil is survived by his wife of 64 years, Gwendolyn Tillman Bacon, sister, Virginia Hinely, son, Jerry Bacon, son, Chris Bacon Arlete, daughter, DeLaine Bacon, 6 grandchildren, Britt Bacon, Bennett Bacon, Erin Bacon, Sara Bacon, Cyrus Bacon, Ryan Bacon and one great grandchild, Phillip George.
A Memorial Service will be held at Fox and Weeks Funeral Home on Hodgson Memorial Drive in Savannah on Monday Sept 30 at 11:00 AM, with visitation at 10:00 AM followed by burial at Zion Baptist Church Cemetery in Baxley GA at 2:00 PM.
The family suggests any remembrances in his honor be made to the Wounded Warriors Fund.
